ABOUT ME

My name is Dustin Sonenthal, and this is my first year teaching high school kiddos.  I come from the college setting where I worked in a labratory setting and was the undergraduate teaching assistant for freshman biology labs.  It was here that I learned for my love of teaching and wanted to devote my career to emparting my love of science to the youth of today.

When I am not in the classroom though, I love the outdoors.  I like to bike as well as do yoga. Every summer I want to make it my goal to visit every single national park and camp there.  I also love to golf  in my spare time.

I believe that humor is the perfect tool to learn science through, it lightens the subject matter as well as makes it easier for students to remember.  To me, science education gets a bad rap for being to serious.  It is my own personal philosophy that nothing is to serious to make a joke.

Tips for Success

Educational Philosophy

I believe that education is interconnected.  History teachers do not just teach history and science teachers do not just teach science.  You learn about numbers in math and apply those numbers and concepts in science.  For this reason I believe that hands on activities in science should be more than just labs (as good as a teaching tool as they are) you should let your students explain concepts in science using art and writing stories.

Here are some universal tips for success at school:

  • Get a good nights sleep

  • Study a little bit every day

  • Eat breakfast

  • Exercise

  • Always come into my class with an open mind

  • Ask Questions

  • Come to class

  • Ask for help

  • Its ok to make mistakes, thats why we are here.

  • Take risks
